THE ARCHIE MILES PHOTOGRAPH LIBRARY
Built up over the last 35 years the photograph library now contains around 300,000 high quality colour transparencies in both 6x7 and 35mm formats.
Geographically, the collection covers most corners of Britain, although it is particularly strong in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire and along the borders of Wales. There are many fine images of the defining landscapes, vernacular architecture, villages, towns, castles, churches, bridges, farms and farming. You will also find several small collections in the picture library covering specific sites from around the world.
TREE PHOTOGRAPHS
Since the early 1990s the main thrust of my work has been tree photography, which has led to an ever-growing collection of tree and woodland images, now well over 100,000 in the library. There is comprehensive coverage of all native species of trees and a substantial number of exotics and introduced species. Heritage trees and ancient trees are also extremely well represented. British woodland in all its rich and varied glory also features strongly. There are numerous tree details - bark, flowers, fruits, roots, twigs and a rich selection of tree abstract images. Many tree related arts and industries have also been covered, including willow baskets, bark peeling, charcoal burning, green woodworking, topiary, sculpture, etc.. There is also a huge archive of historic tree pictures dating back to the 18th century, with images from a diverse array of sources, including all the seminal tree publications from the 19th century.
Please bear in mind that the selection of images on the website is but the tip of the iceberg and should you have any specific requirements then please contact us by email or telephone. We will do our level best to find the pictures you need.
Although the whole library is on colour transparency we do have a top end film scanner and so we can supply whatever pictures you need as digital files, whether it be low resolution for editorial consideration or high resolution for actual reproduction.
