Archie Miles was born in Yorkshire where he spent all his childhood. Having graduated with a Photography BA from Trent Polytechnic he moved to London. Since then he has lived and worked, with his partner Jan, in the Cotwolds before arriving in Herefordshire. They have two daughters, Rowan and Eleanor, two Scottie dogs, a cat and two pet sheep.

Archie photographs and writes for a selection of major industrial, editorial, tourism and environmental clients.

He has a growing portfolio of books three of which are described in this site:

• The Heritage Trees of Britain and Northern Ireland is a celebration of some of Britain's finest Heritage Trees. Inspired by the smaller 'Great British Trees'
  book published by The Tree Council in 2002, this book extends the range of trees covered and looks at a wide variety of species which are special to Britain's cultural, botanical and landscape history.

• The Trees that made Britain

In late 2005 I was commissioned by the BBC to write and illustrate the book to go with the BBC2 8-part series of the same name. The programmes were introduced by Tony Kirkham and Jon Hammerton (from Kew), who also wrote an introduction for the book.
The book is a wealth of botanical information, cultural associations and historic background. This is a bright and lively introduction to the trees and treescapes of Britain.

• Heritage Trees of Scotland

Text by Donald Rodger, Jon Stokes (Tree Council) and James Ogilvie (Forestry Commission Scotland) with photography by Archie Miles and Edward Parker. Published by Forestry Commission Scotland in association with The Tree Council and Scottish Natural Heritage.First published in 2003, this is a 160 page, softback, A5 format book featuring 100 of the most exceptional Heritage Trees of Scotland.

After the phenominal success of the smaller softback edition of this book from 2003, the Forestry Commission asked the same team to reconvene in 2005/6 to produce an updated and enlarged edition of the book. In October 2006 the second edition, now a 256 page, hardback book, in crown quarto format (189 x 246 mm) and with an additional 34 trees was published.
