HAWTHORN - one of the most prolific hedgerow trees. Large impressive single specimens in full flower. Windblown and contorted trees on mountain and moorland. One of the oldest, on Britain’s smallest nature reserve at Hethel, in Norfolk. Blossom both white and pink (var. Paul’s Scarlet). Details of fruits and ancient contorted stems. Also naturally ‘bonsaied’ upland specimens with attendant sheep’s wool.
